Attorney Benjamin Long
Benjamin Long is the founding attorney of Schlagel Long, LLC, a Kansas-based estate planning and probate law firm serving clients in Olathe and beyond. He helps nontraditional families—including LGBTQ+ couples, blended families, cohabitating partners, and families formed through assisted reproductive technologies—create estate plans that reflect their unique structure and values.
Ben ensures that all documents, from wills to trusts to medical directives, are customized to clearly define family roles, safeguard privacy, and avoid unwanted court decisions. He regularly advises clients on using tools like trust protectors, SLATs, and cohabitation agreements, as well as the importance of naming specific individuals instead of relying on outdated or gendered terms in estate documents.
Benjamin earned his J.D. from Washburn University School of Law, where he was inducted into the Order of the Barristers and earned a Certificate in Advocacy. He also holds a B.S. from Kansas State University. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star and is a recipient of the Martindale-Hubbell Client Distinction Award for trusted legal service.
Ben also teaches estate planning as adjunct faculty at Washburn Law School and coaches the Kansas State University Mock Trial Team. He lives in Olathe with his wife, Dr. Andra Long, and their two daughters.
